Clearing IP Traffic Counters
FromprivilegedEXECmode,usethiscommandtoclearallIPtrafficstatisticscounters(IP,ICMP,
UDP,TCP,IGMP,andARP).

UsetheproceduresinthissectiontoperformthefollowingICMPconfigurationtasks:
• EnablingorDisablingICMP
• SendingPingRequests
• UsingTraceroute
Enabling or Disabling ICMP
Bydefault,ICMP(InternetControlMessageProtocol)messagingisenabledonaMatrixDFE
Series/N‐SAroutinginterfaceforbothecho‐replyandmask‐replymodes.If,forsecurityreasons,
ICMPhasbeendisabled,usethiscommandfrominterfaceconfigurationmodetore‐enableICMP.
Thiswillallowthe
routertoreplytoIPpingrequests.
ip icmp {echo-reply | mask-reply}
Usethis“no”formofthecommandtodisableICMP:
no ip icmp {echo-reply | mask-reply}
Sending Ping Requests
FromprivilegedEXECmode,usethiscommandtotestroutingnetworkconnectivitybysending
IPpingrequests.Thepingutility(IPpingonly)transmitsamaximumoffiveechorequests,witha
packetsizeof100.Theapplicationstopswhentheresponsehas beenreceived,orafterthe
maximumnumberof
requestshasbeensent.
